NALA Program Development Officer
Based in Tel Aviv with potential international travel
Reports to: NALA CEO
Duration: 3-6 month – replacement for maternity leave. Starting mid June
Terms: Half time employment (21.5 hours a week). A minimum presence of 2 days a week in the NALA office in Tel-Aviv.
Expected Salary: 5,000 NIS including benefits

NALA, a public benefit company, is the executive arm of the Center for Emerging Diseases Tropical Diseases and AIDS (CEMTA) at the Ben-Gurion University. Its prime objective is the eradication of Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) such as Bilharzia and intestinal worms. NALA has been carrying out programs in Ethiopia since 2008, causing dramatic and sustained decrease in the prevalence of Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) from an average of 60% to less than 10%. The key to NALA’s success is behavioral change by intense community outreach with local volunteers.
The unprecedented success in disease control received international attention, and the foundation won the Grand Challenges Explorations grant sponsored by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in 2014. For its work in the State of Tigray in Northern Ethiopia, NALA received a prize in 2016 from the state president. The organization has recently started a technical assitance project with the Ethiopian Ministry of Health to design a behavioral change and WASH model to be rolled out through the health posts all over the country.
• Develop new models using international standards (such as the World Health Organization standards, or other best practices) and theoretical/operational frameworks.
• Develop new partnerships and project proposals with the support of the NALA CEO and President.
• Development of new educational material for NTD education and behavioral change
• Support field operations in Ethiopia
• Fluent in English, and is able to communicate freely in writing and orally
• Fluent in Amharic – an advantage
• Excellent research and writing skills
• Able to juggle multiple activities at the same time
• Thinks and acts strategically and ensures that activities are prioritized and aligned within an agreed strategy
• Communicates and works effectively with a wide range of people to reach common understanding across organizations and with government partners
• University degree, preferably in a relevant subject matter such as MPH, international social work or medical professions.
• Experience in curriculum development for health , research or business development and grant writing.
• Experience in living and working in an international setting.
• Knowledge of the international development or public health fields is an advantage.
• Experience of working or volunteering in resource constrained countries is an advantage.
