A special session at the Knesset Sub-Committee - Israeli aid to Nepal

On the initiative of SID and Tevel B'Tzedek, the Knesset Sub-Committee on Foreign Affairs and Public Diplomacy will be convening a special session on the first anniversary of the Nepal earthquake to review Israel's humanitarian intervention efforts and draw lessons for the future.

The session will be chaired by MK Dr. Michael Oren and will be held on the 8th of June with the participation of MKs, representatives from the Ministries of Defense, Foreign Affairs, and Finance, the Home Front Command, the IDF Medical Corps, Magen David Adom, the Nepalese Embassy, Israeli Manufacturers' Association, as well as Israeli CSOs active in relief efforts in Nepal: Tevel B'Tzedek, IsraAid, Israeli Flying Aid, Natan and other Israeli NGOs engaging in humanitarian relief.

This is a significant breakthrough and is the first session of its kind in the Israeli Knesset. It is our hope that this session will contribute to a better understanding and appreciation for Israeli humanitarian relief efforts and provide meaningful findings about how to improve the effectiveness of future Israeli relief missions. To that end, SID has prepared recommendations for follow up activities which we will present at the session for consideration. This session is part of SID's ongoing efforts to raise the profile of Israeli humanitarian and development efforts in the Knesset and other public forums.
