The response of the international development and Israeli humanitarian aid community to October 7 and to the war in Gaza

Dedicated emergency grants for the development and aid community

Our hearts and thoughts are still with our friends from the south and north of Israel who are still being evacuated from their homes from all over the country, who were affected by the inferno of October 7th.

Sid-Israel and the "World Together" organization joined together to provide support to our shared community, who have been working tirelessly since 07.10, to support Israelis whose lives have changed forever.

Many of the Israeli humanitarian sector have shifted their focus temporarily from other global issues, to lend their professional experience to those in need at home.

A day after the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, "Sid-Israel" and "Olam" embarked on an unprecedented partnership to support our joint Israeli organizations, which were greatly affected by the attack itself as well as the war in Gaza.

Thanks to the generous support of several donors, we opened an emergency grant to support the physical, mental and emotional well-being of the Israeli teams and volunteers in the international development and humanitarian aid organizations. These grants helped our partners to continue their critical work, despite the most challenging times they experienced.

"We are trying to continue our work while our house is on fire. The fact that you are concerned for us — international development organizations — is not something I expected… Thank you for doing the amazing work you do and for taking the energy to make sure everyone keeps going."

Dr. Tomer Malchi, CultivAid

Assistance in obtaining social security coverage for humanitarian aid organizations responding to the war of Iron Swards

The Sid-Israel team will be happy to assist the community organizations in obtaining social security coverage. The organizations must send us the following details to the email info@sid-israel.org :

  1. Association registration certificate

  2. Valid management permit (if you don't have one, please explain the reason for this).

  3. Excel table with details of all volunteers (not paid employees) which includes:

  • full name

  • T.Z.

  • mobile phone

  • The field of volunteering

  • Volunteer start date

After we transfer the details and if all the information transferred is correct, you will receive an approval from National Insurance.
* It is important to clarify that National Insurance covers only the volunteer himself - loss of work capacity - and not the organization's activities.

The events of October 7 had a catastrophic effect on all of us in Israel, including tens of thousands of refugees, asylum seekers and migrant workers.

We joined together to raise awareness of this important issue, through an article published in JTA, in which we call on Israeli and Jewish leaders to ensure that these populations receive the services they deserve even in times of emergency, and what we as a community can do.

The article was written by the organizations:
A world together, Sid-Israel, HIAS Israel; ASAF - the aid organization for refugees and asylum seekers in Israel; The Center for Refugees and Immigrants, ARDC - Center for the Advancement of African Refugees.
